Leviticus is a story about two teenage boys who start liking each other and their religious parents have a priest summon a monster to look like each other to each other and it hurts them. The kids are supposed to stay away from each other or the monster will get them. I know there are some notes in this that will go completely unnoticed by me, since I’ve never had to deal with my religious parents disagreeing with who I choose to love, so I’m not judging this movie based on that, AT ALL. Just like last year when I watched “I saw the TV Glow”, I recognize that there are things here that I don’t see.
Now, that being said, I thought this was a pretty good horror movie. Not knowing if the characters were real or the monster kept me on edge and waiting for something terrifying to happen. The performances of the main actors (especially Ryan) definitely helped keep this tension alive, and it doesn’t let you get too comfortable. It feels like the characters are always in this heightened state of anxiety as well so it’s easy for the director to unleash the tension to make for some pretty great scenes. The movie is definitely a vibe and that vibe is not comfortable at all. It could sometimes drag a little, but I wouldn’t say it was boring, just a little slower than I would have liked.
