With my second Nic Cage film of the season, I bring you Mom and Dad, a movie not afraid to kill children but not quite smart enough to do anything but.
Nic and Selma Blair are suburban parents with their own struggles. Nic has hit the midlife crisis wall hard and Selma struggles with connecting with her teenage daughter. Without explanation, parents start killing their children. Suddenly, violently and unwaveringly. That’s basically the movie. There are some flashbacks that explain a little more about their mindsets, but most of the on screen action is just their kids trying to escape the murderous intent of their parents.
There’s a ton of Nic Cage being “Crazy Nic”, and some good “implied” kill scenes (they stop short with showing actual child murder). but otherwise, there’s not a lot here.
